I found a humming bird under my bed today

Today I heard a strange voice coming from my room . After searching I found a small lady bird baby . It came from the window . The ladybird must have a nest somewhere near by my window . I tried to make it fly out through the window but soon I realized that it was very little and not mature enough to fly on its own . So I put it in a shoe box with some food and water so that will not starve to death .

Next I searched the internet to find more information about this bird , particularly about its feed . I got this from Wikipedia :

Hummingbirds are birds of the family Trochilidae, and are native only to the Americas. They are known for their ability to hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings 15–80 times per second (depending on the species). Capable of sustained hovering, hummingbirds also have the ability to fly backward, being the only group of birds able to do so. Hummingbirds may also fly vertically and laterally. Their English name derives from the characteristic hum made by their wings.

Not surprisingly these birds also feed on insects specially spiders.

2. Put your blog on list of 300 Blogs : If you see it the other way around , you can get your self listed on the list of those 300 blogs . Your blog needs to load fast in order to get there on the list .You can find your site load time from here . If your blog has a high load time then the chances are that you will not get listed on one of those lists . Pictures and videos take some time to load so if you have a lot of images on your home page you can remove them and reduce your site load time .

When you have all things set up then you can contact those people who have those lists ( 300 entreard blogs ) and request for your blog addition to that list . Few of those lists can be found on the sites below :

Get your blog on as many such lists as you can find in order to get more drops on your entrecard each day since there is no limit in the number of drops you can get each day.

3. Entrecard Forum : A very small percentage of entrecard users are active at entrecard forums and they are missing a source of free and easy entrecard credits from other fellow entrecarders. Under the forum category "Promotion & Events" other entrecard users give away free entrecard credits for very simple and easy tasks like leaving a comment on their blogs , give feed back of their blog layout etc . You can very easily get upto 500 entrecard credits from those simple tasks each day.

4. Contests : From time to time many entreacrd users give away thousands of entrecard credits in contents held in their blogs . Although the chances of winning those credits vary a lot and there is simply no guarantee for the time you spend in participating in those contest but still these are free credits and a lot of them.

So get those credits on regular basis and you can even trade credits for cash and do a lot of things with those credits like held your own contest which will help you in getting more exposure for your site and do not forget to give me a drop

Long way to increase traffic rankings

Before I switched to a custom domain for this blog , I had an alexa rank of 1,900,000 . After I switched to the domain KashifBLog.com my alexa traffic ranking fell seriously and was around 6,000,000 which is very very low.

After doing some fixes and getting some more traffic to this new domain , my alexa rank improved and now it is at 1,373,397 . I hope you know that lower the number the better the rank. This still is a very low traffic rank since according to Alexa traffic ranking system any site with a traffic rank of over 100,000 is considered unreliable . I never understand why they associated the term "unreliable" with low ranked sites.

So still a long way to go . The traffic rank will hopefully keep on increasing and by the time you will be reading this post , this blog will have a better Alexa traffic rank .

Today my younger cousin came to me and informed me that his elder brother (my elder cousin) officially became the father of this very cute baby boy. I visited the couple and congratulated them for receiving this beautiful gift from nature . God bless them both and wish them good luck in future endeavor .

There are millions of free directories where you can submit your blog for free and get easy one way link which can help increase the number of inbound links and also help your blog to rank well in search engines which in turn will give your blog more free hits from search engines.

The question however is which directory to submit your blog and which are the ones that you better leave as they are not worth the time that it will take to submit your blog . There are two things that I always look for before submitting to a free directory .

1. Directory Page Rank

Google High Page rank

Page rank is Google's importance of any webpage . It ranges from rank zero i.e PR0 to PR10 with 10 being the highest which Google.com has. Page rank of any website can be found by installing Google toolbar . So whenever you visit a site , its page rank will be indicated in the Google tool bar in your web browser.

How this rank is calculated by Google is still not completely known . Usually the more inbound links from other sites that have high page rank and also relevant to the site they are linking to will get you a higher page rank but Google also incorporate various other factors when assigning page rank to a web page .

So the first thing to do is install the Google page rank toolbar and only spend time in submitting your blog to those directories that at least have page rank higher than zero.

2. Alexa Traffic Rank

The other thing to look for is the directory Alexa traffic ranking . To get more detailed knowledge about Alexa traffic I recommend that you read it at The Alexa Traffic Ranking page . I hope by now you know how Alexa calculates and assigns traffic rankings to web pages . For that you have to install Alexa tool bar which will indicate the traffic ranking of any website that you visit .

Now that you know what are traffic rankings and you have to toolbar , you can easily find out the traffic rankings of directories that you visit . This will save you a lot of time as you will immediately identify those crapy directories which do not even receive any traffic and have very low traffic rankings .

So you know both page rank as well as Alexa traffic rankings of the directory and you are all set to launch your directory submission campaign . You can start by submitting your blog to 10 free one way link directories here . Good luck.

Tips for getting free traffic

Today I decided to go through all the categories listed in Entrecard site in order to find out what one needs to do to get the most out of Entrecard . Those of you who have not yet registered to Entrecard and do not know what Entrecard is then you might be missing a source of free traffic which this system is offering for the past few years.

Entrecard is a free advertising system which people like you and me use to advertise on other blogs . The advertisement is in the form of a graphical banner of size 125x125 (Just like the one shown on the right side bar under the Title Featured Blogs). With your banner on different sites and people clicking that banner to visit your site , you can attract some decent traffic for your site and that also for FREE .

Now here is how it works . Whenever some one (Entrecard member) visits your site and clicks on the drop button on the Entrecard widget present on your site , you earn 1 credit . The same thing happens when you click on the drop button of someone else's Entrecard . So you earn credits by dropping on other peoples Entrecard and by receiving drops from other Entrecard users . Those credits can be used to advertise on other blogs . The credit requirement can be anywhere from 2 entrecard credits to over 4000 entrecard credits for one day advertising on other blogs . There is no limit on the number of drops you can receive from entrecard users each day (correct me if I am wrong) but you can drop a maximum of 300 entrecards each day . There is also no limit on the number of Advertisements you purchase each day (as long as you have sufficient amount of credits).

TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST OUT OF IT :

Now the question is how to get the most out of this entrecard system . I will explain this with a simple example . Lets suppose Yahoo decides to register for entrecard so they signed up for an entrecard account . When ever a new user signs in , the price tag to advertise on that user entrecard is 2 entrecards which is extremely cheap if I consider the amount of exposure I will be getting when by banner shows up on the front page of Yahoo for one whole day .

So the key to get the most out of Entrecard is to advertise on new blog which have just signed in . So that you do not have to spend too many credits . Use Entrecard browser page to search for the new entrecard blogs and make sure that you are the first person to advertise on their entrecard .

Also make sure your Entrecard banner looks attractive and is relevant to your site.

Feed transfer was not a big deal as I thought it might be . I just have to edit the details and thats it .

I have also added a simple looking favicon to this blog which some of you might have noticed . Creating a favicon was super fast and easy . I just have to upload an image to HTMLedit and they converted the image to a 32x32 size favicon which I uploaded to Ripway and then added the following code to my home page right after the starting head tag :

As most of you who have read my previous post about a dot com domain for this blog can see that this blog is no longer having a dot blogspot dot com in its URL because I just purchased a custom domain which is KashifBLog.com

I changed my mind and decided not to buy a domain from Godaddy despite the fact that they were cheap in their prices . I purchased this domain from Dynadot for $8.99/year . Then I went through all the hassle of pointing this custom domain to Blogger .

Few things still need to be done . I have to transfer my old feed to this new domain feed. I have to check with feed burners whether this is possible or not . Everything else seems to be fine at the moment.

How to get traffic and advertise on other blogs for FREE

These type of programs do not offer great amount of traffic but for a new blog you can get few extra visits and exposure in the beginning.

Getting traffic is one of the major concerns for any new bloggers. There are various ways you can promote your blog but those might cost you some extra money which most of the new bloggers will not be willing to invest at the beginning . Today I am going to share with you the methods that many bloggers are using to gain extra traffic by advertising on other blogs and that also for FREE. This method involves advertising on other blogs with your banner ad (usually of size 125x125). This way you can gain extra visitors for your blog and for which you do not need to pay anything at all . Just imagine your free banner appearing on a blog which gets thousands of daily hits . This will also impact your traffic stats depending upon how attractive your banner is.

Below I have listed few of those networks that you can join for free and start receiving extra traffic from other blogs .

1. Spottt.com : This is one of the networks that I have mentioned . There is no criteria for joining . You join them , submit your banner to them , place their banner widget on your blog at a place where it can be easily spotted , get your banner approved and start receiving traffic from other blogs . This works in a way that when ever someone visits your blog you receive credits and those credits are automatically assigned to your banner for advertising on other blogs in the network . This is a sort of banner exchange but works quite well for getting extra traffic .

2. 125exchange.com : Another banner exchange network that you can submit your blog along with three banners ( size 125x125 ) . The great part of this network is that all the new blogs get 5000 free credits which they can use to advertise on other blogs . Again I have to make it clear that you do not need to get into the hassle of searching for the relevant blogs to advertise on . You only need to select the relevant categories that your blog belongs to and the rest will be done by 125exchange.

3. Free banner exchange ( Update : Link removed ) : Very similar to the above two but the only difference is that you can have other size banners as well . They currently support 468x60,125x125,88x31 sizes .You place their widget on your blog and other blogger ads will run on your blog and your ads will run on other blogs through this widget .

All the above tools that I have listed are intended to delivering extra traffic to your blog . They will not provide massive amount of traffic but still they are better than many other tools that occupy a lot of space and deliver very low traffic .

I am still searching for more networks like the ones I have listed above . I will add them to the above list .

Online Earning Guide traffic stats for April '08

Traffic for this blog increased in April '08 . The reason behind this is this blog being featured as Hot Communities in MyBlogLog and the other reason is Entrecard . This blog was on the front page of MyBlogLog hot communities for about a week time and in this time it received more exposure and 200+ more community members.

Entrecard also sent me some extra traffic but the bounce rate was very high (upto 90%) which indicates that most of the entrecard users just want to drop their card , earn credits and run away.
